Whitmer halts indoor service at bars in most of Michigan –
Outdoor service can continue
(WXYZ) — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order closing indoor service at bars throughout most of Michigan to protect the state as the number of COVID-19 cases is growing.
It includes all regions except the Traverse City area and Upper Peninsula. Bars statewide can continue to serve outdoors.
“We owe it to our front line heroes who have sacrificed so much during this crisis to do everything we can to slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the chance of a resurgence like we are seeing in other states,”
The governor's office said nearly 25% of COVID-19 diagnoses in June were people between 20-29. She also added that as bars reopened, some have had large outbreaks, including at Harper's Bar in East Lansing where 107 confirmed cases have been linked.
