WBRW Cancels Candidate Forum
Station will still provide candidates with an opportunity to record statements for the public
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM WBRW TV
WBRW TV has worked since mid-June to put together a forum for candidates running for supervisor, clerk and treasurer in Washington Township. The goal of the forum was to provide those candidates the opportunity to answer questions that were important to residents using a format recently used by the League of Women Voters in neighboring communities.
We originally scheduled the forum for June 30, but we did not have the participation to provide a fair and equal opportunity for all of the candidates and decided to postpone.
We moved the date of the event to July 14, hoping that the extra time would provide all candidates running for those seats an opportunity to make themselves available. It is clear now, less than a week from the event and keeping in mind the rules and regulations suggested by the League of Women Voters, that we will not have the level of participation we need to move forward with a forum that could be perceived as fair to all candidates.
It is with that in mind, that we have decided to cancel our 2020 Candidate Forum and hope that residents will be able to find sufficient information on local candidates through our candidate statement programming, local newspapers and other sources they deem appropriate.
Our goal has been to provide the residents of Washington Township with as much information as possible about the candidates running for local office and we apologize to those residents who were looking forward to viewing the forum.
Thank you to Pastor Steve Barkey for volunteering to support the forum as a community service.
